AT ERASMUS UNIVERSITY MEDICAL CENTER ROTTERDAM
Science Gallery is a brand new public space at Erasmus University Medical Center Rotterdam, where science, art, society, education and health care meet. Set to start engaging audiences through pop-up activities from September 2019 on the Erasmus MC campus before opening its permanent site in the main building of the Medical Center, Science Gallery Rotterdam will create and host free exhibitions and events designed for a target audience of young adults from 15 to 25 years old.
Bringing science, art, technology and design together, Science Gallery delivers unique, transdisciplinary exhibitions, events and educational programmes that engage millions of curious and inquiring minds around the world every year in connective, participative, and surprising ways. It offers a social space to develop ideas, imagine the future, realise dreams, and engage in conversations that deepen understanding.
Science Gallery experiences enable young people to develop the skills they need for the 21st century, equipping them to thrive in the knowledge economy through the skills of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Maths) and the essential skills of creativity, problem solving, adaptability, resilience and communication. Science Gallery unlocks the creative potential of young people, providing opportunities for young people to develop skills for today's and tomorrow’s jobs, creating fertile ground for entrepreneurship and innovation, and discovering new connections and inspiration for young people around the globe.
As well as engaging the public, Science Gallery Rotterdam will engage academics and students at Erasmus MC with new approaches and means of collaboration, embedding multidisciplinarity and public engagement at all levels in the university system. Erasmus MC is committed to a healthy population and excellence in healthcare through research and education, and will play a pivotal role in pushing the boundaries of the Science Gallery Network.

Erasmus University Medical Center Rotterdam is committed to a healthy population and excellence in healthcare through research and education. Erasmus MC’s track record in research ranges from fundamental and clinical domains to public health and prevention, with an annual research budget of around €140 million.
Erasmus MC holds over 85 projects funded by the European Commission, of which 76 Horizon 2020 projects including collaborations with partners from 56 countries worldwide. Bibliometric indicators place Erasmus MC in the top 20 of clinical medicine worldwide; its publications are cited 1.78 times the world average.
In addition to scientific research, patient care and education are core tasks of Erasmus MC. It is the top referral centre for a region of about five million inhabitants. Erasmus MC is also the largest medical school in the Netherlands, with around 3,500 medical students and 258 PhD graduates in 2016, and offers BSc, MSc and PhD programs. Together, the students and aprroximately 13,000 employees at Erasmus MC improve the individual patient care and public health of tomorrow.
