The Covid crisis makes it painfully clear how vulnerable our society is to pandemics and disasters. The damage is not limited to our health. Society and the economy have also been hit hard. The moment to ask the question: How do we protect ourselves and society and the economy against the next pandemic or disaster?

Pandemic & Disaster Preparedness Center
Climate change will lead to an increase in extreme weather in the coming century. This increases the risk of infectious diseases. For example, climate change has already brought mosquitoes to the Netherlands that can transmit infectious diseases. But the threat is not limited to our health. Densely populated areas, such as Rotterdam and the region, are also vulnerable to flooding and extreme weather conditions.

To prepare society for future pandemics and disasters, Erasmus MC, Delft University of Technology and Erasmus University Rotterdam have jointly established the Pandemic & Disaster Preparedness Center. An initiative to reduce risk and develop resilience. Biomedical, technical, social and economic scientists work together on scenarios to be better prepared in the future.
