Young people develop their identity by mirroring themselves to others. Social contacts are increasingly online. During the lockdowns, young people were even more dependent on screens. For lessons and lectures, but also in their relationships with family and friends. Researchers from Erasmus MC and the university asked young people how they felt during the lockdowns. A conclusion is that some young people are vulnerable, while others are doing well. Mapping the risks of a lockdown for young people requires more research.

For 'THE OTHER ME’, 13 young Rotterdammers collected images in their own social bubble. Rnul, Interaction designers, incorporated these images into a scripted video installation. This installation is about 'organic identity': who you really are, versus "synthetic identity": the edited version of yourself.

Exactitudes
Ellie Uyttenbroek and Ari Versluis are best known for their photo series Exactitudes that they started in 1994. These photo series are world famous, not only in art circles, but also in fields such as cultural anthropology, marketing, etc. In the series of portraits, Ellie and Ari investigate identity, subcultures, clothing codes and street style.

Rnul
Rnul interactive is a Dutch interaction design studio based in Rotterdam since 2007. Using various sorts of innovative media Rnul creates spatial experiences. Through interaction they evoke and provoke the visitors to become part of the work.

SCIENCE

Public health
Epidemiologists make mathematical models that predict the increase and decrease in infections and the effect of Covid measures as accurately as possible. With that knowledge, the government can adjust the measures. In the models, the R-zero factor is important. If it is higher than 1, one person infects more than one new person; if it is lower than 1, one person infects less than one new person; That makes the difference between an increase and decrease in the number of infections. The Covid measures are aimed at getting the R-zero factor below 1.

Not only Covid-19, the measures have an effect on people's health. These effects may differ per person or group. Age, socio-economic differences, having an illness or disability play a role in the extent to which people are affected by the measures. Researchers are therefore also studying the effects of the measures on the health of various groups.
