(R)EVOLUTION EXTENDED TILL JULY 3, 2022

(R)EVOLUTION, Science Gallery Rotterdam's second exhibition at Erasmus MC, will be extended until 3 July 2022.

Due to the current covid measures, it has been decided to extend the exhibition until the spring of 2022. Hopefully, this will provide more opportunities for physical events and workshops. Fred Balvert, project leader: “For Science Gallery, exhibitions are the beginning of a conversation between scientists, artists and the public. That is why we attach great importance to physical events, which hopefully can take place again in the spring.”

R)EVOLUTION takes the versatile COVID-19 research of Erasmus MC as the starting point of a journey of discovery by young people, artists and scientific researchers: What has changed since the outbreak of this virus? In society, in healthcare and in our heads? What has this time taught us, and how will we deal with this in the future? It’s up to us. Following a series of masterclasses and workshops, Science Gallery invited the artists Ellie Uyttenbroek & Ari Versluis (Exactitudes), Iwan Smit and Monice Janson to create a new work for (R)EVOLUTION.

Ellie Uyttenbroek & Ari Versluis, together with young people from Rotterdam and Rnul Interactive, made the video installation 'THE OTHER ME', in which they created organic vs. synthetic identity, in other words: who you really are and what you look like on social media? Monice Janson selected professional and personal statements by scientists such as Marion Koopmans and Diederik Gommers. Iwan Smit was inspired by the concept of One Health. “Virologists study viruses in animals to map out risks. They look at how we interact with wildlife and agriculture. The study of the relationship between humans and nature to prevent disease is called One Health. In addition to being an important and relevant study, I also think it is a lifestyle that we can take further.”

In addition, the exhibition includes work by Quinda Verheul, Robert Good, Basse Stittgen and Transformation Design students from the Willem de Kooning Academy.

The artworks are located in the Passage, a public space in Erasmus MC. The exhibition can be visited during Erasmus MC opening hours. However, to regulate the influx of people, it is advised to book a tour on the weekends. These tours have a maximum of 4 people and take into account the current measures.
